Requirements for new HDR candidates

Your commencement program continues throughout your first year and is a requirement of candidature. It is comprised of a series of orientations and deliverables that are designed to get you off to the best possible start. You begin with the Central Commencement Program which provides a University wide introduction to acquaint you with the issues you need to know about.

You will then attend the Faculty Commencement Program (either in person or online). The initial orientation is offered face-to-face twice a year and introduces key Faculty, Department and University staff. You will be given an overview of the research community, activities, training and support available across the Faculty.
Both the CCP and FCP are available online for distance candidates via iLearn. If you are unable to attend in person, simply send an email and we will provide you with the login and key to access Learn.

The final step in the commencement program is a report of progress and confirmation of candidature called the Faculty Commencement Report (FCR). The FCR is due at the end of your first three months of candidature (or equivalent part-time). The FCR includes a detailed budget and plan for the remainder of candidature. Your Faculty HDR team will contact you to provide you with required form and budget template when this is due (also available from iLearn). Your progress must be endorsed as satisfactory by your Supervisor, Department and Faculty in order for your candidature to be confirmed. If you have any questions about requirements ask a member of the Faculty HDR team and check the iLearn.

Requirements for new MRes Year 2 candidates

The Higher Degree Research Office will provide you with details of the MRes Central Commencement program. You will receive invitations to attend both the MResCCP and MRes FCP. You will be enrolled in the corresponding iLearn unit for candidates on our range of 899 unit codes. If in doubt, please contact us.
