Appointment of Executive Dean

Professor Simon Handley

Professor Simon Handley has been appointed to the role of Executive Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences. He will take up the position in October 2015.

Professor Handley is the current Head of the School of Psychology and Associate Dean at the University of Plymouth, UK. He holds a PhD Psychology from Cardiff University, and joined his current university in 1993 as a lecturer. Over the following 22 years he served in various roles including Head of Psychology, Associate Deanships (Faculty and Research), and Dean of the Science Faculty. He has an extensive research and publication record in the fields of reasoning and judgment and holds, among other responsibilities, the chair of the Economic and Social Research Council Future Research Leaders Commissioning Panel, and membership of the ESRC Training and Skills Committee.

"I am confident that our recruitment practices have identified the best candidate for the role from a field of strong contenders. Whilst the selection process is never easy, it is rewarding to see the excellent reputation of our University reflected in the calibre of the applications we receive," said Professor Bruce Dowton, Vice-Chancellor of Macquarie University.

"I thank Professor Henry for his service as the Acting Executive Dean since the departure of Professor Janet Greeley and for his continued support in that role as we prepare for Professor Handley's arrival over the coming months."

"I have no doubt Professor Handley will make a profound contribution to the Faculty, and to the University leadership as a member of the Executive Group, when he joins us later this year, and I look forward to welcoming him to campus."
