Congratulations Professor Lyndsey Nickels
Congratulations Professor Lyndsey Nickels on her recent achievements.
Following on from her Faculty of Human Sciences Excellence in HDR Supervision Award, Lyndsey was the recipient of the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Higher Degree Research Supervision.
Earlier in the year, Lyndsey was made a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (FASSA). A most prestigious honour and very much deserved.
Lyndsey came to academia after several years working as a Speech Therapist in various London hospitals. Her research career started at Birkbeck College, University of London, where she obtained her PhD in 1992.
She came to Macquarie University in 1996, initially as a visiting Research Fellow on a Welcome Trust Fellowship. In 1999, she took up an Australian Research Council QEII Fellowship and then in 2006, she took up an NHMRC Senior Research Fellowship.
She began her research career studying acquired sentence processing disorders and their remediation with Sally Byng and Maria Black. Since that time much of her work has focused on word production. She also has a commitment to research into the remediation of language disorders, and collaborate with speech pathologists in this endeavour. More recently her research has extended to developmental reading and spelling problems (dyslexia) in children and adults.
