Helen Atkins

Helen Atkins"Being a mature aged student is a constant but exciting challenge..." before coming to Macquarie I was a full-time mum. I had thought about becoming a science teacher for several years and once my children were old enough, I decided to come and start my degree here at Macquarie.  I had been to a couple of Open Days here and found Macquarie to be very welcoming.

Macquarie offers a wide range of subjects that you can tailor to your personal goals. Doing a Bachelor of Science with a Diploma of Education will give me the qualifications I need to be a teacher, as well as knowledge and experience in the field I love, science.

I find the semesters at Macquarie fit in well with school holidays, and the flexible learning options allow me to study part time so I still have time for my family. I can vary the amount of units I take each semester and choose classes that fit in with my schedule. Online learning tools like iLecture and Blackboard, and the late operating hours of the library have also really helped me to fit everything in.
